The First Week of the School Year and Turkey Burgers

Today officially makes five days of school, so the first "school week" of the school year is done. It has gone really well and hope that means that this will my best year of teaching so far. This is my sixth year teaching and my fifth year at the school I'm at now. This is my first group of 4th graders that I've seen through since they were in kindergarten. That is something special to me, and I'm sure that I'll feel a little bit emotional about it when the end of the school year comes.

As far as my teaching goes, all I've really had time to do in two music classes is assign seats, review rules, review procedures, review my consequence and reward systems, and play a couple of my usual games that I reserve for the last few minutes of class if they are being good. Tomorrow I get to start my real music lessons with some fun songs that review dynamics (how loud or soft a song is) for 1st - 4th grades. Second grade will learn about dynamics with the song "Heigh Ho" from Snow White,

3rd grade will use the song "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins,

and 4th grade will use the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" which is a song in and of itself but is used in the movie The Lion King."

I love starting out the school year with these songs and getting to show movie clips with the songs after the kids do all of their learning. For those of you who don't really get into the songs like I do, I'll move on. Here is my outfit for today. I used to save an outfit like this for a program, but why not wear it on an everyday basis? It is comfortable and easy. Plus I hope to be smaller than this by my next program!

After school I picked up a few things from Meijer, picked up my FIL's dogs and brought them to my house. Then I got to some cooking. I decided to go simple this week and make turkey burgers for my dinner. I used our convection oven to cook them which is convenient and green. All I had to do was season my turkey burgers, put them on the wire rack, and set the oven.

Seasonings of choice were seasoned salt, pepper, and rosemary.

Tonight my goal is to get into the bathroom and do a little more wall prep on the other side of the room such as removing a tiny bit of wallpaper and some more sanding where we used joint compound to fill some holes. This is going to be my "exercise" for the day along with doing my neck/shoulder stretches this morning.

This is one of the flavors I like quite a bit.

There wasn't any with the frosting on top today, so I just had a plain one. This is a picture of yesterday's doughnut.
