Short Hair

A new post two days in a row! Craziness I know... Anyway, this isn't really weight loss related, but I've been excited about it all day and wanted to share some pictures. I went in to get my hair cut this morning and actually did something different. Drastically different for me - I went pretty short. I always said that I wanted to have short hair at least once in my life just to see what it was like. I figured I would wait until I have kids and have no time for doing hair. It turns out that working full time and going to grad school also consumes all of your time. I also am wearing a newer t-shirt (a $3 find from Wally World a long time ago) and my jeans are slightly big, so I feel really good with the new hair and the outfit I'm wearing.

I love that you can actually see that my eyes have a lot of green in them in this picture. Even though my eyes are kinda half green/half brown, the usually turn out looking brown in pictures.

Appropriate shirt for standing by my fake instruments for Rock Band.

Just goofing off for the next few pictures.

Halloween and a Haircut

I'll start with Halloween and talk about the haircut second. I'm writing a Halloween post a few minutes after I finished handing out candy to the neighborhood kids. I live in a small town a few blocks from the town square in a nice little area, so we got about 95 trick or treaters this year. I almost ran out of candy, but my husband had some extra Kit Kats and I had some extra suckers sitting in our kitchen cabinets.

That's me dressed up in my Animal hat and gloves ready to pass out candy in this cold weather!

My bucket of candy and plastic Halloween rings.

Four of the five doxies going nuts because people are at the door.

I also tortured took pictures of all five doxies (our three and my father-in-law's two) in Halloween costumes. They don't tolerate the costumes well except for Sebastion (the former show dog). So here's some pictures to ooh and ahh over:

Sebastion the Dinosaur

Peter the Alligator

Benjamin the Squirrel

Lilly the Witch

Boo the Bat

I also decided to wear my one Halloween shirt that fits today to work with some fun earrings.

Peace, Love, and Vampires!

Yesterday (Tuesday) I got a haircut after work. It is the same thing I've been getting, but it feels nice to have my bangs trimmed. It is also nice to have someone else blow dry and style your hair. I'm really not very good at it, so this is the only time it looks really good. I was also liking my sweater (I have a thing for black and white stripes.), so I decided to be a little silly and take some pictures.

I do actually have weight loss things to talk about, but I'll save that for another post.

Catching Up and From the Mouths of Babes

Catching Up

This week has been a busy one so far! Monday was Labor Day, so I didn't have to go to work (no school!). I got some chores done around the house, went out to eat with my hubby and FIL for lunch, went to Menard's to pick out our baseboards and window/door trim, and spray painted the vent and ceiling fan cover for the bathroom. I also worked on finishing more things I need to get done for applying to graduate school. I'm meeting with the head of the program next Monday, so I'm getting a little anxious since this seems real now.

Here is the cover that I spray painted back in place.

My breakfast this week which is my usual egg white wrap but this time with Colby jack cheese and salsa.

We went to Cracker Barrel for lunch since it is next to Menard's which is where we bought our trim.

I made something similar to this a few weeks ago. This time I used an Oreo pie crust, 3/4 cup fat free Cool Whip, and a 16 oz. container of Chobani vanilla chocolate chunk. Very yummy and around 190 calories if you are counting.

Tuesday was back to work and a hectic day at that! I had an appointment after school for a haircut, so that was a nice break after work.

My outfit for Tuesday. I can't wait until I can pick up all this stuff we are using for the bathroom reno that you see all over the place behind me.

Me with my new haircut (which is really the same thing I've been doing).

Wednesday was very busy. I have ten classes to teach, so I don't have prep time and am constantly running around to switch things out and stay on top of what I need to get done. I stayed after work for quite some time to clean up, send e-mails, and do phone calls. Menard's is down the street from the school I work at, so I stopped in to get some stain, hinges, and door pulls for the bathroom linen closet. I also stopped at the post office and got gas for my car. When I got home, I took a short walk with Benjamin (my doggie with endless energy). Then I tried out my new hinges and pulls for the linen closet to find out everything is off by a small amount like 3/8ths of an inch! I think the standard sizes must be slightly different now than they were in the '50's-70's which seems to be when any renovations were done on this house.

My outfit for Wednesday.
My accessories and yes that is a mood ring.
As for the weight loss, Monday and Wednesday I got a little bit of extra movement in for exercise. The eating isn't exactly what I planned out for the week, but is MUCH better than last week. I haven't been eating home cooked dinners, but I am picking things I ate before when losing weight. I've been eating a lot of the same stuff I was before such as PB&Js for lunch, egg white wraps for breakfast, Clif bars for snacks, etc. My dinners have included chicken and a baked potato or a bean burrito and diet Foutain Dew.

From the Mouths of Babes

I thought that some of you might enjoy hearing a couple funny things that students have been saying to me or another teacher at work. Here we go:
  • Today I had a second grade girl look at the mood ring you see pictured above that I was wearing today. She asked me if it was my wedding ring! I said no and showed her the ring on my other hand. Even though they call me Mrs. Kramer, she said, "I didn't know you were married!" Then she asked me what my name used to be. Before I said anything, she said "You must have been Miss something." Then I explained how I was Miss before I was married and I changed my name. It was cute and amusing.

  • The other day a teacher found a first grade student sitting in the office with a cast on his arm. She asked him what happened and he mumbled something she couldn't understand. There happened to be another teacher standing by that understood. The boy said, "A fat girl fell on top of me." That is how he broke his arm. Only from the mouths of babes!

A Haircut and a Costume

This weekend was busy with trying to clean the house, get some shopping done, and doing things for work. The first thing I did on Saturday morning was get a haircut.

If you are wondering about the shirt, it is Ralph from The Simpsons. Ralph has some of the best lines!

How come my hair never looks this good when I do it myself?
After that I went grocery and other various things shopping. I was looking for a gray cardigan, black skirt, black tights, a magic wand, and a cape. Why you ask? It is to make a Hermione Granger costume for work. They are having a Reading for Fun Day and would like staff and students to dress up as a favorite character from a book. I would love to be Scarlett (from Gone With the Wind- my favorite book), but I don't think that anyone would know who I was. I made a fake tie and Gryffindor patch for my costume with some fabric, ribbon, pin backs, photo paper, and hot glue. I was getting my craft on and this is all you get to see until I put it all together tomorrow.

Another random find from this weekend was a good microwave pizza that is 200 calories a serving. It is by DiGirono and they have different kinds, but I had the supreme.

My eating and working out wasn't very good this weekend, but has been much better today. Always easier to get back on track on a Monday. I also got an e-mail about a walking challenge in the school corporation where I am working through the wellness program. I immediately signed up. It was only $40 (and that is for a really nice pedometer and USB port for it) and it looks to be fun with teams and prizes. I figured it would be good motivation to get working out again.

Here is the food for today...

Breakfast was Chobani, oatmeal, and a fruit strip around 5:30 this morning.

My first morning snack was a Nutrigrain bar at 7:30.

Later in the morning I had baby carrots, chicken lunchmeat, and a Special K bar- 10:00.

Lunch was Progresso soup and Wheat Thins at 11:30.

My afternoon snack was cinnamon almonds, a fruit strip, and a Special K bar around 2:50.

Dinner was Subway- diet Coke, ham and turkey on wheat with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers and light mayo, and a yogurt parfait at 4:30.

I'm guessing that later tonight I'll be eating one of these...

Exercise won't be much tonight- either cleaning the great room or a short walk.
