Winning the Stripes Challenge

I managed to wear stripes the whole work week as per my challenge from a colleague. On Thursday I wore this outfit:

And on Friday I wore this outfit (which means I met the challenge!):

I'm still feeling under the weather, but I managed to get through the week and not miss any work. I'm still really tired, have an irritated, sore throat, slight cough, and red eyes. I hope that I feel better by my grad school interview on Monday!

My husband has just finished his first week on the job and is doing well. It is strange to be at home alone for a couple of hours (as alone as you can be with three to five dogs). Once I get my energy back, I think it would be a good time of day to work out.

I've been enjoying watching The Voice which is the only TV show I make sure to take time to watch. I have a song stuck in my head that was sung by Melanie Martinez. It is "Cough Syrup" by Young the Giant. I've never heard of them, but I just got through listening to several songs of theirs on YouTube. I really enjoyed it. I guess I do need to try to listen to some new music more often. Also, if you really listen to the lyrics it sounds pretty depressing, but the lead singer of the band said it is about wanting to break out and do something different than what suburbia expects of you (not drugs or suicide). I like that interpretation of it the best. Anyway, here is the video of Young the Giant performing it.

I've been pretty much eating the same things I pictured in my earlier posts this week. I've been snacking a lot and drinking much more diet pop than usual to help keep my energy up while working. I just hope that I can at least maintain for this week. Now that the weekend is here, I can maybe take naps instead of eating sugar and drinking caffeine.

Stripes Challenge and Skillet Dinner

Today I continued my stripes challenge week with a blue and white zebra striped shirt. Just in case that wasn't considered "real stripes," I also wore striped socks.

I woke up with an irritated, scratchy, sore throat which is still bothering me. My eyes are red, I'm tired, and low on energy. I really hope that I'm not getting sick. I made it through the work day, but ate bad snacks to try to keep my energy up (which didn't help all that much). I had multiple rice crispy treats, a Twix candy bar, and some diet pop. I ended up taking a nap with four of the five doxies next to me minutes after drinking the diet Dew.

My husband cooked a healthy dinner for us tonight. I even have enough leftovers for my lunch tomorrow and Friday. I don't know what to exactly call it, but it was made in a skillet with chicken, potatoes, broccoli, carrots, and chicken broth.

I had to run to the store while my husband started to make dinner to get some carrots and broccoli. I thought I would be walking out with two items, but ended up with all of this stuff. My excuse is that I found all of this stuff on sale and we will use it. That much is true.

Food for the day:

Breakfast:

Sorry that the picture sucks, but this is something new I tried for breakfast. It is Jimmy Dean and only 250 calories. It has a whole grain muffin, egg whites, turkey sausage, and cheese.

I also had some applesauce with this.

Yipes Stripes

The name of this post is for two kinda silly reasons. The first one is a co-worker of mine noticed that I wore stripes yesterday and today. She challenged me to wear stripes the rest of the week which is totally doable since I have developed a thing for stripes (especially black stripes with either white, gray, or pink). So I will put pictures up of my striped work attire this week.

My outfit for today.

I pulled my wrinkly sweater out of the laundry to take a picture of my stripes from yesterday.

The second reason is that the stripes challenged reminded me of this horrible song from a Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST 3000) movie entitled Teenage Strangler. If you are a Mistie (fan of MST 3000) you should check it out. If you aren't a Mistie, then check out the video below to see the song "Yipes Stripes." It is full of horrible awesomeness (that is what you have to enjoy to make it through any MST 3000 movie).

As for the rest of my day, there really isn't anything exciting to share. So here are my eats for today (with a couple of snacks not pictured- rice crispy treat and Twix candy bar- that I really need to give up for now):
