My Mini Road Trip

Thursday

The Thursday after the 4th of July I had plans to see some of my friends in Lafayette. I know it sounds a little crazy to drive an hour and a half each way to see friends for a couple of hours, but is nice to have the ability to do that on short notice without worrying about work. It is a nice part of a teacher's summer. I also thought it might give me some time to think about what I'd like to go back to school for as well.  I tried to take a few photos on the way (keep in mind I'm driving anywhere from 65-75 mph while taking these).

Once you get south of Rensselaer, there are farms and wind turbines. That means there are farms with animals and plants as well as wind farms!

I tried to get a picture of the Wabash River while driving 50 mph on River Road. I didn't want to spend too much time on that though since it makes me nervous enough in spots where the road gets closer to the river.

If you look carefully between, the trees on the right side of the picture, you can see a black stand with the gold Purdue P for the rowing team.

This is the dumpy hotel that the hubby stayed at when he had to proctor a late exam on Thursdays and teach on Friday mornings. I spent the past few spring breaks going down there with him and staying in this "wonderful" place.

Elizabeth's birthday was the 5th. They had plans to go out to a bar, but that isn't my thing. I went out to dinner with Elizabeth, her boyfriend, and Kristen before they went out to the bar. We went to a newer restaurant called Tomates Mexican Bar & Grill. I messed up with the time change and thought I got there at 7:00, but really got there at 6:00 their time. I asked the lady who seated me what time it was and she told me it was almost 7:00, so I ended up sitting there for an hour. I got to watch a Mexican dating show which had English subtitles at the bottom. It was a little bit weird, and I was glad to finally see my friends. I ended up getting the tilapia tacos which came with three tacos and rice. It was way too much food for me. I ended up eating the rice and one taco. I gave the other two to Elizabeth since I had an hour and a half drive home in the heat.

After dinner, I went over to see Kristen's new house. I've seen some pictures online, but it was nice to see it in person. I love looking at houses and sometimes look at the MLS for fun even though I'm happy with my house. I stayed and chatted with Kristen and even got to see my other friend Rachel for a few minutes as well.

When I was driving home (more pictures from the drive home below), the hubby called to tell me that our electric had been out for hours and he was at the FIL's house. I decided to go to our house first, and the electric looked like it had been on for about 15 minutes according to the blinking clock on the stove. I missed a huge storm by being in Lafayette. Luckily for us, we didn't have too much food in the refrigerator to throw out and rebuy.

I drove by the old apartment where the hubby and I started our married life together while he finished his graduate classes. We were the top one in the right hand corner. It was about 500 square feet and a studio. It makes me realize how lucky I am to have my own house with 1,600 square feet now.

I wanted to get a good picture of the blinking red lights on all of the wind turbines as I went past them in the dark. My camera (or the owner who doesn't know how to use all of the functions on it) wasn't capable of doing that though.

The same thing happened when I tried to get a picture of the Saint Joe (where I went to college) exit sign.

Friday

Friday mornings are usually my C25K wogging days. Since I was up late the day before, I slept in until about 9:00. By that time the heat was already too unbearable for wogging. It made me disappointed, but I told myself it would probably be okay to wog on Saturday morning.

Most of the day was a lazy day because of the heat. The AC was set at 75, but the house kept getting warmer. It was 83 inside by the afternoon. I did manage to go grocery shopping to replace the lost items in the fridge, spray paint a metal shelf to match the picture frames in the great room, and put the final touches on my photo collage in the great room.

This is the left side of the collage. Notice that the 2x3 frames spell something (hint: this side says Kami and).

This is the right side of the collage. The frames on this side spell Andrew and one has a heart.

This is the metal shelf that I started to spray paint on Friday night. Should be all finished on Saturday.
