I thought that this was such an awesome even that it deserved its own separate blog entry. We took the Southshore train into Chicago
Once again, for no aparent reason, the picture won't load the right way. It's my train ticket stub.
and stayed at this nice little hotel off the beaten path called Indigo Hotel. It was decorated very cutely and the colors were great. There was a spa, restaurant, and bar in the hotel.
We were there plenty of time before the concert, so we went out to eat lunch and go shopping. I don't remember the name of the restaurant we ate at, but it was great. The food was awesome and I couldn't even think of finishing all that they gave me to eat.
After that we went shopping. My small duffel bag that I brought with me was literally busting at the seams, so I thought I might be able to find a new one (which I didn't for a price I liked). I also was stupid enough not to pack shorts for the concert. It was so hot, that I decided to give up on the jeans and find a pair of shorts. I got a pair of Bermuda jean shorts by Levi from Macy's for only $15.
My new Levi shorts. Sorry about the wrinkles, but this picture was taken after wearing them and stuffing them into my small duffel bag.
I also found this very hippie inspired top that I really liked. I was going to put it back, but my aunt decided to buy it for me for my Christmas present. Thank you Aunt Susie!
We got Subway for dinner and went back to our room to rest, eat, and get ready. We were going to take a taxi Wrigley, but we were told that taxis couldn't even get close to it. We ended up taking the red line (yes, both of us have never been on the subway) to get there and back. Us country bumpkins figured it out and survived it.
We were lucky to get to Wrigley when we did. The line for bag check was loooong. We got to be at the beginning of it (yay). The show was supposed to start at 8:00, but Paul wasn't on the stage until 8:30. He played with no intermission until 11:30. It was such a GREAT show. The band he had was able to recreate the Beatles and Wings songs to make them sound like the did back in the day. Paul did such a wonderful job. He came out in a jacket and it was in the 90's and us fans were sweating just sitting there watching him play (he did take it off after a few songs).
He switched instruments throughout the show from different types of guitars
to the mandolin,
ukulele,

and piano.

Paul played "Hey Jude" on this crazy piano while the crowd sang along.
He also played a great selection of songs from throughout the years from Bealtes to Wings to solo. His voice was also great and he even sang a lot of falsetto with being on key. He even told stories in between some songs and was dancing around. The other cool part (especially for us cheap seat people) was that there were two huge screens on each side of the stage with close ups of the band and mostly Paul. That is how I got decent pictures.
This is how the stage looked from our seats. They also used images from Beatles Rock Band on the screen.
Paul played "Give Peace a Chance."
They had fire and fireworks for "Live and Let Die."

We took the red line back to the hotel after the concert. It was a mad blob of people all trying to squeeze into this tiny station. I think I saw one of my co-workers in the crowd a few people ahead of me, so I'll have to ask her when we go back to school. We made it back to the hotel safely and slept until 9:00ish the next morning. We got Subway for breakfast and took the train back home. It was a fun trip and we are planning on doing a concert every summer now.
If you would like to see the set list (it's from Sunday's concert, not Mondays, so it is a little different than the show we saw) and a review, here's the link to the newspaper article from the Chicago Tribune: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-08-01/entertainment/chi-paul-mccartney-concert-view-mccartney-at-wrigley-reviewed-20110731_1_paul-mccartney-drummer-abe-laboriel-paul-wix-wickens
